Stay Awake
“Stay awake, stay alive.” I don’t know about you, but I’ve been seeing more highway LED signs with warnings about drunk driving. Recently, I saw a LED sign that was blunt, yet effective. “Stay awake, stay alive.” It reminded me of how we, as Christians, need to stay awake in our faith and stay connected to the Spirit so that we can live purposeful lives. This world is getting darker and scarier — there are more wars, hate, acts of violence, corruption in government, and normalized sinful practices. Anxiety is so common that, for many, it prevents them from going to sleep and greets them as they wake up. People are talking more and more about the end times. We know that it’s sooner now; we can feel it. But despite all this, we know that we have a God who loves us, is still in control and desires that we stay close to Him and trust Him. We don’t have to fear because we know that He is coming back for us. We don’t have to worry because we know that He will keep us, protect us, and is always there to guide us. Whether you are discouraged, disappointed, distracted, or struggling with temptation, I encourage you to stay awake — keep your eyes on Jesus, your Creator and Savior, who loves you dearly and can help you be and stay faithful — because then you stay alive! Your relationship with Jesus will keep you connected to the Source of your life, here on Earth and in Heaven.
Verses: Romans 8:6 NLT, 1 Thessalonians 5:6 ESV
“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NLT).
“So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober” (1 Thessalonians 5:6 ESV). I encourage you to read the rest of 1 Thessalonians 5.
