What You Carry Matters

I was at the airport recently when someone gave a reminder, over the loudspeaker, not to take anyone's luggage by accident. As I waited for a shuttle, I thought about it. If you take someone else's luggage, then you are mistakenly, or willingly, carrying what belongs to someone else, to be equipped for your destination. Sometimes we imitate those on social media or others around us, picking up what they do or trying to get what they have. However, this unnecessarily adds to our load.

We only need to carry what is essential for our own journey and personal growth. Possessing someone's baggage, plus your things can get heavy and delay you from reaching your destination. Your journey is different from everyone else's; that's why God filled your luggage with the essentials required to fulfill your purpose. Only He knows what you really need for who you're becoming and where you're going. So don't look to others to determine who you are and what you need. Stay focused. Keep your eyes on Jesus and let Him, and what He says about you, be enough.

Verse: Colossians 3:2-3 NIV, Hebrews 12:1-2 CEB

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:2-3 NIV)

“So then, with endurance, let's also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let's throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up, and fix our eyes on Jesus, faith's pioneer and perfecter. He endured the cross, ignoring the shame, for the sake of the joy that was laid out in front of him, and sat down at the right side of God's throne.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 CEB)
